Safety
How we keep riders safe
Families and care facilities trust us with people they love. Here is what we do on every ride to earn that trust.
-
Checked and trained drivers
- Every driver has cleared a Livescan fingerprint background check.
- Every driver is trained in CPR and basic first aid.
- We are enrolled in the California DMV pull-notice program, so we hear about any change to a driver’s record.
- Every team member is trained on our motorized stair chair.
-
Inspected vans
- Drivers complete a 19-point vehicle inspection at the start of every shift.
- Any problem found is logged and sent to our mechanic, who fixes it and signs off before the van goes back out.
- Every van gets a safety inspection at least once a year from a certified repair shop.
-
Secure wheelchair rides
- Lift-equipped vans, so riders stay in their wheelchair.
- Chairs are secured with the Q’Straint system.
- Riders wear a seat belt and shoulder harness.
-
Every trip tracked
- Real-time GPS tracking whenever a rider is on board.
- Each trip’s route is recorded and kept, so it can be reviewed if needed.
- Onboard cameras record inside and outside the van.
Westar provides non-emergency transportation only. In a medical emergency, call 911.
